SERV ride out incidents

A group of SERV riders were going out from the Royal British Legion base in Harpenden to RAF Abingdon to take part in the Ride of Respect. These riders are experienced and can handle most situations without concern.

During the ride to Abingdon three incidents occurred. I present these incidents for your enjoyment.

This is a common incident; a driver concentrates on the car and pulls out and fails to notice the bike, or cyclist.
The positioning of the car gave me indication if the driver was going to turn left or carry on around the roundabout. I pulled up close the the car but the driver didn't look at me, even with my headlight in his face. Had he seen me or was he ignoring me? I decided to let him go first.
It was only when I could see the back of the car did I see the L plate. Was he a learner driver? Was he insured? Just as worrying was the thought that he was a qualified driver who was teaching someone else?

Mind yourself if you come across LR11 UAC during your travels

Another road user who thinks they are above the law and use a mobile phone whilst driving.
To get his attention I pointed at him and he did lower the phone and then wave to me. I hope this makes him think next time.

Keep a look out for EA12 DFY.

Saw this chap in my mirrors weaving across the road. Looked like he was sorting out his paperwork. He even caused a car on a mini-roundabout to brake as he shot across. As we come up to the brow of the hill he suddenly accelerated and was right up my back and I realised he was as looking to overtake - hill and blind bend!
As I moved down the hill behind the lorry and car I was approaching 30 mph when I saw the Hyundai pull out and start to overtake! I backed off but even so I still had to brake to give him space. I held up my arm in annoyance and he gestures something to my - didn't look like Sorry.
He then proceeds to again exceed the speed limit to overtake the car and lorry and only just manage to squeeze across before the next set of bollards.

All I can say is that if you see Mr LK13 VHX Hyundai driver I suggest you pull over and let the idiot pass you.

Road Hog
Another driver who only sees a few fee in front of them. She was only doing 43 in this 50 MPH zone. Driving in the outside lane is wrong but then so is overtaking on the inside even if you are not exceeding the speed limit.
