I had to do a run around the North Circular from Bounds Green junction to Hanger Lane. Early morning, Monday morning run and on the first day back for the schools.

Unfortunately, some road works and traffic light sequence changes caused a major gridlock. Please explain to me why they hadn't done the works during half-term.

The normal 30-minute journey took nearly an hour and I was on a bike. I was carrying boxes for donor breast milk and had my panniers fitted which meant I was not as manoeuvrable as normal. God knows how long the car drivers were stuck on the road. I rode the same road 90 minutes later and it was empty.

My GoPro Hero 3 recorded the journey as I wove my way through the traffic. So as not to bore you I have speeded up the film 8-fold. I don't normally ride through traffic this fast.

Enjoy.

Mini roundabouts are odd things. Many drivers treat them as a continuing road with a bump in, like the driver in this video.
Even though I was on the roundabout while his van was still 20 feet from the hatched line that marks the roundabout, he thought he still had right of way. None of this give way to vehicles already on the roundabout.

He even speeds up and swerves so he is driving straight at me across the bump. He sounds his horn, not as a warning but as a chastisement.
So if you see this Blue van, registration R008 CEF I would recommend you avoid him, He is an idiot and needs to retake his test.Steeljamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07046658731942330634noreply@blogger.com051 Redbridge Ln E, Ilford, Greater London IG4 5EU, UK51.580461 0.05543199999999615125.9253895 -41.428943000000004 77.2355325 41.539806999999996tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468788800923705679.post-25626660902401825272015-12-24T13:53:00.000-08:002015-12-24T13:57:17.582-08:00When will drivers understand that even when the traffic is moving slowly, or has stopped temporarily, they are still driving the vehicle?
Slow moving traffic on the North Circular approaching the A1 junction. I noticed the vehicle breaking oddly and for no reason; it was obvious the driver was distracted.
I knocked on the window to attract her attention.
Her reaction was a usual one. I'm not moving so it is OK. She had been moving and was on the phone.
Usually, the trip is without incident. However, it can get exciting and interesting for all sorts of reasons. Today I filtered to the front of a blockage to find a chap in the middle of the three carriageways struggling with a dog.
The cars and lorries drivers were just sitting there watching; I parked the bike and approached the man. He was holding the dog on the ground and the dog had a really strong grip on the man's hand; there was blood all over.
As I was wearing gloves, I grabbed the dog's jaws and prised them apart so the man could release his hand. More blood.
In the end, I used one of the straps on my bike to secure the dogs mouth so we could get the dog safely to the man's house.
The gloves went straight into the bin.
Good deed for the day done
The positioning of the car gave me indication if the driver was going to turn left or carry on around the roundabout. I pulled up close the the car but the driver didn't look at me, even with my headlight in his face. Had he seen me or was he ignoring me? I decided to let him go first.
It was only when I could see the back of the car did I see the L plate. Was he a learner driver? Was he insured? Just as worrying was the thought that he was a qualified driver who was teaching someone else?
Looked like he was sorting out his paperwork. He even caused a car on a mini-roundabout to brake as he shot across. As we come up to the brow of the hill he suddenly accelerated and was right up my back and I realised he was as looking to overtake - hill and blind bend!
As I moved down the hill behind the lorry and car I was approaching 30 mph when I saw the Hyundai pull out and start to overtake! I backed off but even so I still had to brake to give him space. I held up my arm in annoyance and he gestures something to my - didn't look like Sorry.
He then proceeds to again exceed the speed limit to overtake the car and lorry and only just manage to squeeze across before the next set of bollards.
Overtaking

According to the Highway Code there are a number of places where overtaking is not allowed and can proved to be extremely dangerous.

Here is a chap whose impatience could have resulted in an accident. At the start of the clip you can see the Red Suzuki Alto coming in from the left junction. As I take the curve he comes in right behind me and has to break to avoid hitting me from behind as I have to slow up for the zebra crossing. The red car shoots across into the outside lane and then having overtaken the cars waiting for the pedestrian ignores those on the crossing and drives across.

So please take care on zebra crossings especially if you see a red Suzuki Alto registration EO04 YXS.

As a motorcycle rider who usually keeps to the posted speed limit I have had to break hard to avoid the idiot who speeds past me then turns left without checking they have complete the overtake. Sometimes they warn me by indicating as they turn.

The way he or she was weaving about indicated that driving was only of secondary importance. The erratic braking and speeding up also pointed to distraction, tiredness or being tipsy. The darkness didn't help me see inside the car. It is another thing when it is all dome on video.
The accident occurred on my regular ride home from the office. Waiting at the lights I saw the whole thing as it happened.
But who is to blame? At the moment both parties are saying the other one is in the wrong.
White car turned across on-coming traffic but was the blue car travelling too quickly and did it jump the lights?
It didn't look right. As I got closer I noticed the car was weaving and the driver was constantly moving. At first I thought he was on the phone but I realised he was just sorting himself out and getting comfortable. Things he should have done before he started off!
He nearly hits a bus and on-coming traffic when overtaking a cyclist.
When he disappeared completely I was astounded. It was only the verge that kept him from going off the road.
He shouldn't have been driving!

Luckily I am always wary about islands.

I was on the left of the road and couldn't see round the bend. The driver could see even less.
He hares off at speed until he meets a car driving legally and tail gates him.
In the end it didn't get him any where and he used extra petrol and some wear on his break pads.
I wouldn't recommend Uncle Nick as an instructor.

Watch on YouTubeSteeljamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07046658731942330634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468788800923705679.post-64836399837375541592011-07-07T12:45:00.000-07:002011-07-07T13:00:37.007-07:00Who has the right of way?It is an area that I feel is very unclear.
Large roundabouts don't pose a problem it is the small and mini roundabouts. The highway code states that you should when arriving at a roundabout you should give priority to traffic approaching from your right. How far away from approaching the roundabout should you observe?
In this example I am approaching but is not on the roundabout, the other car is just on the roundabout. So who has the right of way?
I was actually set to allow the car to pass in front of me and I would carry on. The driver was suddenly aware of my presence and stopped. He did wave an apology.

Watch on YouTubeSteeljamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07046658731942330634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468788800923705679.post-24429723441773997102011-06-09T01:13:00.000-07:002011-06-09T01:17:01.772-07:00WavingThere are many method of signaling given in the Highway Code. This driver used none of them.
I is intending to turn right but doesn't signal and the first warning is the break lights. He then 'waves-on' the car waiting to turn out of the road.

Watch on YouTubeSteeljamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07046658731942330634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468788800923705679.post-64281294073194919472011-06-08T17:35:00.000-07:002011-06-08T17:36:50.683-07:00Red Light CyclistIt is not just car drivers and motorcyle/scooter riders that are a menace. Cyclists are the most vulnerable users of the road but also they often bring it on themselves by not obeying road signs and signals.
This happy chappy goes through two sets of red lights, the second whilst pedestians are still crossing, but gets stuck on the third set.
The silly thing is that if he had stopped at the first set as he should have he would have been ahead of himself, Go figure.

Watch on YouTubeSteeljamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07046658731942330634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468788800923705679.post-58477058887747263292011-06-08T17:33:00.000-07:002011-06-08T17:34:58.957-07:00Roundabout ReaderIt was the reaction of the silver-blue car behind the dark red car that I noticed first. It was obvious the Dark red car was acting oddly. The Dark Red car is certainly driving erratically.
If you look carefully you will see the driver has a copy of an A to Z on the steering wheel and is trying to navigate whilst driving.

Watch on YouTubeSteeljamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07046658731942330634noreply@blogger.com0
